Description
Calamintha species are annual to perennial herbaceous plant with creeping rhizomes. The stem has a rectangular cross section. Your opposite arranged leaves are evergreen, and simple. The leaf margin is serrated.
The inflorescences are cyme with lanceolate bracts shaped and pointed up and two to twelve short stalked flowers. The cup is double lip-tube to bell-shaped, hairy inside dreizehnnervig and weak.
The approach of the cup while the fruit is currently either not or only weakly sac. At the reflexed upper lip bears the cup three teeth, two are on the lower lip, the latter longer than the upper lip and lanceolate. The white, pink or purple crown is almost as long as the calyx and also double lip, the tube is widened slightly.
The upper lip is notched, the lower lip three-lobed and recurved, the middle lobe is longer than the side lobes. There are four stamens present. The ovary is glabrous. The style is shorter than the crown. The Klaus fruits consist of four egg-shaped and rounded part fruit.
Use
The Calamintha species are just as aromatic as relatives of the genus Mentha and are therefore sometimes also for brewing tea. In addition, some species are used as ornamentals, especially Calamintha grandiflora.
